Medical Personnel Supporting US Ebola Response Return Home
PRINCETON, IN – Onsite Occupational Health and Safety, Inc. (Onsite OHS), today announced it that the final team members supporting the U.S. Government Ebola response will be returning home this month.
Operation United Assistance in Liberia was the government's contribution to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa. Various US agencies including the Department of Defense, Department of State, U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) contributed in the efforts.
"Onsite OHS was honored to be part of the U.S. response to one of the most challenging public health emergencies in recent history," said Kyle G. Johnson, President & Chief Executive Officer of Onsite OHS. "It is a testament to the abilities and quality of the clinical professionals that make up the Onsite OHS team."
Working with various clients globally, OHS mobilized medical supplies, personnel and equipment in September of last year. Although the response was expected to last longer, the Ebola transmission in Liberia was curtailed during the last few months and the deployment period was shorter than expected at the height of the outbreak.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), over 20,000 people have contracted Ebola in this outbreak. This includes over 10,000 deaths in the three hardest hit countries of Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia.
